Building the Future is a hands-on activity aimed to provide middle and high school students a taste of many engineering disciplines. The students will be solving problems that arise from a "natural disaster" to a city. These problems will incorporate the many facets of engineering with a break-down of each. Projects include building a wind-powered generator for emergency power, constructing a bridge, decontaminating the soil from a chemical spill, and searching for missing people with autonomous robots.
This semester, Building the Future will be held on Thursday, November 19, 2009 from approximately 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Iowa State's campus. Pizza will be provided for lunch for $3 (2 slices and a pop).
