Pi Day is celebrated to promote Tau Beta Pi and increase awareness of the Iowa Alpha Chapter among engineering students, faculty members and visitors to the University. The event in Spring 2025 took place in the entrance of Howe Hall and the Atrium of Hoover Hall, which are central locations through which many engineering students pass on their way to class. This year the actual Pi day, March 14, was on the Friday before Spring Break when many student had already left campus. Therefore, Pi Day was celebrated on Thursday April 13. Forty pies (Apple, Cherry, Peach and Strawberry-Rhubarb) were purchased and (100*pi) 314 pieces of pie placed in individual pie piece containers for distribution. All the pie was given away in less than two hours
